Healthy Aging Updates! Active Aging News for Week of September 26, 2016

Hey Active Aging Community! It’s been a great week for healthy aging!

Active Aging Week

Spear-headed by the International Council on Active Aging, Active Aging Week celebrates healthy aging and active living.

At Passport For Wellness, we know that Active Aging is such an important factor in living longer and most importantly, maintaining independence & dignity.

We’re Living Longer

According to the World Health Organization, the number of people aged 60 and over is expected to double in the future. By 2050, more than 1 in 5 people on our planet will be 60 or older.

Programs like our #1 video streaming exercise program for seniors will allow more people to stay active without leaving their home.

Seniors’ Skin Health

Seniors’ skin health is more important than ever – especially now that we’re living longer. How can you make sure your skin is healthy while staying active? This Infographic makes it easy as 1-2-3.

Eat Healthy, Stay Strong

Malnutrition and muscle loss is a problem in the senior population. It’s important to eat healthy and stay active to combat this prevalent issue.

If you are 50 or older, you are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition due to inadequate food consumption and the body’s decreased effectiveness in processing nutrients. Poor nutrition and not exercising can cause muscle loss. In fact, about half of older adults have significant muscle loss which can impact overall health.

World Alzheimer’s Day – September 21, 2016

Wednesday the 21st was World Alzheimer’s Day. For more about this important day visit the website: www.alzinfo.org. It’s such a great cause and a great way to spread continued awareness about this heartbreaking disease that affects so many.

We loved this post on Facebook seeing seniors making purple Rice Krispie Treats to be delivered to Memory Care Facilities in their local area. Did you do anything particularly purple for World Alzheimer’s Day?

Happy Seniors, Homes, and Facilities!

We love hearing feedback about our #1 fitness streaming exercise program for seniors and this one put a smile on our faces.

JoAnn McKruit an Activities Coordinator for the Retirement Housing Foundation had this to say:

“The residents were so into the program. It was just wonderful. As I was watching them do the program, the smiles on their faces were amazing.”

We get so excited when we hear how this new approach to active aging is touching people’s lives!
